Favorite Products
(for my Esthetics students)
On this page, you will find skincare tools, equipment, and products that I’ve personally used, that have been used by people I know and whose opinion’s I trust, or look very exciting/new. I am sharing these simply as helpful recommendations and learning resources.
While I am your beauty college Esthetics instructor, nothing on this page is required to purchase, and these recommendations are not associated with the school in any way. Think of this as a place to explore options, get familiar with tools and products, and learn what’s commonly used in practice.
Some links on this page are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission (at no extra cost to you) if you choose to purchase through them.
If you choose to purchase any of the items I’ve recommended, continuing to use the links on this page is always appreciated. It helps support my teaching work and allows me to continue sharing resources like these.
Thank you!

Skincare Lines
-

DMK
This was the line I used as my backbar and retail. I love the Enzyme mask. This company is top notch, as well as their education.
Only down side is the big up front cost.
-

Hale and Hush
Great product line overall, with a strong focus on being able to be used with oncology clients and sensitive/reactive skin.
I do not think you need to do any large initial buy in to start ordering as a professional.
-

Glymed+
Another brand that has good education and products.
-

Face Reality
If you want to focus on acne, this product line is made for you!
Online Resources
-
Faire - Wholesale
This website allows you access to tons of vendors selling at wholesale prices. Watch the details though, some prices are not enough of a break to be worth it.
-
Spa and Equipment
Overall quality equipment here. Great selection of professional quality machines.
If you get the $99 annual membership, it gives you free shipping for a year, so if you plan to buy a few big things (or even 1) from them, the annual membership might be worth it for one year.
-
CA Estheticians Advocacy FB Group
Great group to keep up on regulations and what the state board is up to.
-
ASCP - Liability Insurance
This is the standard go-to for liability insurance. Do not skip getting yourself covered, whether with ASCP or another insurance company!

Treatment Table
I did a ton of research, looking for a bunch of features at the lowest cost possible. This table is the only one that was less than $2k which hit all of these:
On wheels
Bar to hold table paper
Foot pedal controls
Upper body adjustment
Hole for back treatments.I LOVE this table.
-

Bolster
Use this for your clients anytime they are laying on their back (under knees) or facedown (under ankles).
-

Small Bolster
This can be used to arch the client’s neck during a facial or under the hip during a Brazilian/leg wax for comfort.
Though I did not use it very often, I found when a client did need it, they were extremely grateful to have this option.
-

Hot Towel Cabinet
This towel cabinet is large, has UV light, as well as temperature adjustment to heat towels to your liking.
-

Dryer
This unit will dry your brushes, tweezers, and any other small implements that you sanitize and disinfect. It also uses UV while doing this.
This is not required by State Board, nor does it replace any cleaning steps, but it does ensure your brushes dry 100% between uses.
-

Mini Fridge
Keep any skin care products that go bad easily (including retail), as well as cooling globes / tools to have on hand in case of bad reactions in the treatment room.
-

SMA Cart
I took off the handle on the side of the “Catering Cart” size, and love to use this as a waxing cart and facial cart SMA.
-

5.5 lb Wax Pot (Large)
Large wax pot, great for your standard hard wax.
Or, if you are a soft wax person, but hate getting to the bottom of your pots so quickly, use a smaller pot to warm up your cans of soft wax, then dump them into this large pot. Say goodbye to constantly adjusting temperature settings and refilling…
-

Small Wax Pot
I use this to heat up my 28 oz soft dermwax cans, in order to dump them into my 5.5 lb wax warmer. The key is that the pot opening is over 4”.
-

Double Wax Warmer
Same as the small wax pot, but double. You can have a small pot of hard wax and soft wax.
Or, if you have a large pot of soft wax, you can use this to have hard wax and warm up the cans of 28 oz soft wax to fill the large wax pot. These have openings larger than 4” to fit the 28 oz soft wax cans.
-

Trash Can
Stainless steel trash can with insert & foot pedal, 100% necessary if you are going to be waxing!
Decor / Organization
-

Label Maker
Do not underestimate how clean your organization looks when you have labels printed from a label maker. It helps to put an auditor at ease if state board stops by, if everything has nice, clean labels.
-

Storage Bench
You are always going to want more storage…this bench can hold 400 lbs, so it is a great place for clients to sit and take their shoes on/off, while also providing some storage.
-

Large Corner Cabinet
Maximize your storage with this corner cabinet. There are many other styles depending on your vibes!
-

Drawer Organizers
Maximize your use of drawers with these. You can put the appropriate label on the side of these, so long as they are stored in a drawer that closes or another container that closes (i.e. not out on the counter).
-

Mini Drawers
These can go in your cabinet, or out on your counter top. Easy to label, and they fit Dermalogica fan brushes, tweezers, brow scissors, mascara wands, etc.. You can also switch around the drawers to have the exact setup you want.
General Supplies

Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil, the closest to our natural skin and is not comedogenic. If you purchase another brand, make sure to get cold pressed, organic.
Can be used for…
Facial massage
Wax barrier
Lash Lift Homecare Kit -

Mascara Wands
-

4 x 4s
4×4 non-woven sponges I use for all of the following:
Waxing
Facials
Brow Lamination
Last Lifts
Cleaning wax (from table/pot/etc.) -

CitraSolv
If you wax, you need this to clean your surfaces after the service (outside of wax pot, SMA, table, floor, etc.).
Get yourself an empty spray bottle, fill it up ¼ of the way with Citrasolv, and fill the other ¾ with 70% alcohol. Spray directly on spots, wipe/scrub off with 4×4s (wear gloves!).
-

70% Isopropyl Alcohol
Use this in a spray bottle to dry your brushes. Also, mix with CitraSolv to make the best wax cleaner.
-

Bathroom Spray
Leave this out in the restroom so your clients can cover up any smells!
-

Gloves
Buy them in bulk to save money, they get expensive.
-

Disinfectant Wipes
I love this brand of disinfectant as it’s contact time is ONE MINUTE!!! Turnover between clients can be so fast. It is also non-carcinogenic, and safer for the environment.
After you purchase this product, you can get refills which also saves money over time.
It also comes in liquid for spray/submerging tools.
Waxing
-

Soft Wax
My favorite soft wax. This can is a bit larger in diameter and in height than your average soft wax can.
Many wax pots will not fit the width of this can. It needs a pot opening over 4”.
If you wait and watch for a few months, you can usually catch 15% to 30% off deals.
-

Hard Wax
A good quality hard wax that can be spread thin.
If you wait and watch for a few months, you can usually catch 15% to 30% off deals.
-

Tweezers
This is the best deal I could find for quality tweezers. With the pair, it is a little over $12 each, though keep in mind they are short.
Tweezerman will sharpen their tweezers for life for free, so they are a great investment.
-

Strips
The quality of your strips REALLY matter. It is hard to find quality strips reliably, but this brand is the closest I have found recently that stays in stock.
Just cut your brow strips, don’t spend the extra money to purchase the small ones.
-

Orange Woodsticks
Brow waxing sticks. Purchase the larges pack to get the best deal per stick.
-

6" Waxing Sticks
The standard stick to wax with.
-

4.5" Waxing Sticks
Used for nostrils and some facial waxing.
-

Witch Hazel
For cleansing the skin prior to waxing.
-

Table Paper
Use this table paper while waxing.
-

Nourishing Oil
Homecare oil to retail to your clients (helps to prevent irritation, ingrowns, etc.). This brand is lovely, small, and SUPER reasonably priced. They carry these oils in a Pro size so you can use them in your back bar as well.
Check out all their other products while you are there. I also love the following:
- Smooth Operator Ingrown Hair Serum
- Truth Serum ALL NATURAL Ingrown Hair Serum -

Wipes
For your clients to use prior to Brazilian or anal cleft waxing. You can get these, or any of the many other brands with different visual styles.
Brow Lamination & Lash Lift
-

Thuya Brow Lamination & Lash Lift Kit
These three products are ones I have used and liked for brow lamination and lash lifts. NOTE that the timing for lash lifts is very different than for brow laminations.
This brand takes longer than other brands, however, that means the stress about over-processing is lower as well.
-

Elleeplex Profusion Brow Lamination & Lash Lift Kit
New product (to me), but I am excited to try it out. This product claims to have low risk of over-processing, similar to Thuya. As well as, a gentler grow out period.
Elleebana also has a quick processing formula which is SUPER fast, but you run a higher risk of over-processing.
-

Elleebana Flex Rods
The BEST rods/shields for lash lifting, in my opinion. These do NOT need to be glued to the eyelid like other brands.
There are other sizes and shapes, but I find I always end up choosing this one.
-

Lash Lift Tool
Instead of using single use tree tools that you have to keep buying, but this tool once and reuse!
-

Elleebalm
The BEST product to use to adhere lashes to rods during lash lifting. Makes lift crazy easy compared to using glue.
-

Lifting Balm
An alternative to Elleebalm. I have not tried it, but it is half the cost, so I plan to try soon!
If you get to it before me, let me know if you like it.
-

Preservative Film
Use this during processing for brow laminations and lash lifts.
-

Micropore Tape
Helps to hold down stray lower lashes during a lash lift.
-

Baby Shampoo
Mix this with distilled water (almost all water, only a little shampoo) in a foaming dispenser (see next on this list) to use for lash and/or brow cleansing prior to lamination/lifting.
-

Foam Dispensers
Use for lash / brow cleanser.
-

Mini Mascara Tubes
If you perform lash lifts, you need to make your clients Lash Lift Homecare Kits so they maintain them. These are key for the kit, you fill with Jojoba oil (or castor oil).
-

Microswabs
Use these for product application during lash lift / brow lamination.
-

Micro Eyebrow Brush
I love these during brow laminations to really lay the brows the direction I want.
-

Q-tips
I use these primarily to remove the products after each step during lash lift / brow lamination.
Don’t be fooled into buying the expensive q-tips, these work just fine!
Facials
-

Soft Fan Brushes
Great fan brush for cleansing with brushes, very gentle bristles. The Gold color seems to be the only one with a metal handle, so keep that in mind for disinfection (we want metal handles instead of wood!).
-

Thick Mask Brushes
I have not tried these, but they look so luxurious to spread a mask with!
-

Preston Extractor
The best extractor on the market! It takes some practice, but if you are serious about extractions, you need this guy.
-
Facial Equipment sold by Shelley Hancock
Shelley Hancock is local and sells only top quality equipment that can be hard to find. She is really nice, you can always reach out to her with questions.
-

Budget Friendly Red LED Panel
Its the right nm, which is what really matters. You can upgrade down the road!
-

Fitted Sheets (Twin)
Twin size sheets are perfect for our tables. I like to use one fitted sheet with one flat sheet for my setups, but you can go with just flat like we do in the school.
-

-

Stainless Steel Cooling Globes
Keep these in the refrigerator to use after waxing or to calm inflammation.
-

Table Top Steamer
One of my students ordered this and actually loves it. It doesn’t make beeping noises (my #1 pet peeve with 99% of steamers), and she says it lasts a long time.
If you are using a rolling cart as your SMA, this will pair perfectly with that, saving you floor space.
